Artist Bio:

Artist: Richard P. Wyrgatsch II
Street Identity: Slick, OG Slick

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Slick moved to Los Angeles in 1986 at age 19, becoming a defining force in the West Coast’s contribution to graffiti worldwide. His artistic talents were shaped by his childhood fascination with American and Japanese popular culture. This influence led to demand for his commercial artwork and collaborations, including Ice Cube’s music video for Who’s the Mack and album cover art for Pharcyde’s Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde. A pioneering force in American Streetwear, Slick was at the forefront of West Coast streetwear culture from 1989, adapting his unique satirical style for a broader audience and laying the foundation for generations of brands to come. Simultaneously, he pushed the boundaries of spray techniques and character work in the underground graffiti scene. Working at the intersection of commerce and fine art, process and subversive tension are central to Slick’s practice.

Slick’s diverse body of work includes traditional murals, digital manipulations, streetwear and toy design, site-specific installations, public sculptures, and studio paintings, with aerosol spray paint as his preferred medium. He has created murals worldwide, connected to his culture and iconography, as seen in the Slick Hand Luke mural in Long Beach, California, and the Big Smiling Aloha mural in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Slick’s work critiques popular culture and normative behaviors through his fascination with natural decay and human destruction. His creations ignite emotions through satire and parody and playful sculptures.

Slick has collaborated with various clients, including Adidas, Levi’s, Li-Ning, Microsoft, Disney, LA Lakers, MLS, Mercedes, and even created a gigantic inflatable pig for Roger Waters.
