Artist Bio: Takashi Okazaki is a Japanese manga artist, visual designer, and graphic designer best known for writing and illustrating the acclaimed manga series Afro Samurai.

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1974, Okazaki graduated from Tama University of the Arts. He made his debut as one of four artists featured in the self-published manga magazine Nou Nou Hau. His groundbreaking series Afro Samurai first appeared as a dōjinshi in the magazine’s preparatory issue, which Okazaki also illustrated for the cover.

The series was serialized through the end of Nou Nou Hau and went on to gain international recognition, inspiring a five-episode anime series and the television film Afro Samurai: Resurrection. Following the anime’s success, Okazaki returned to his original work and reimagined the dōjinshi as a two-volume manga series, released in the United States through Tor Books and Seven Seas Entertainment.

Since Afro Samurai, Okazaki has continued to expand his practice across manga, animation, video games, comics, and graphic design, establishing a distinctive visual language that blends traditional Japanese influences with contemporary culture and bold, dynamic imagery.
